Grey Worm points out that his people, the Unsullied, are not peaceful, and they will defend Naath. Grey Worm says he will take her there after the war, but she cautions that the people of Naath are peaceful, and cannot defend themselves. Missandei responds that she would like to see Naath again. He asks if she really wants to grow old in that place, or if there is anywhere else she would still want to see. On the eve of the final battle against the White Walkers at Winterfell, Grey Worm comes to Missandei, and points out that they will always be foreigners in Westeros. Quizzically, Missandei explains that " Marriage" as such does not exist in Naath, so she finds the idea of a "bastard" to be quite an alien concept.
Davos asks if they have similar customs for bastards on Naath island where Missandei is from. Missandei doesn't know what they mean, so they literally explain that Jon's parents weren't married. Jon and Davos explain to her the system of regional surnames used in Westeros for bastard children of the nobility. Some time later, Missandei is talking with Jon and Davos again, and she politely enquires why Jon's surname is "Snow" even though House Stark has ruled the North for centuries, and his father Ned and brother Robb both had the surname "Stark", while he doesn't. He admits that he hasn't been there himself. Missandei reveals that she was born on the Island of Naath, to which Davos replies that he's heard that it's beautiful there, with palm trees and butterflies. Ser Davos meets Missandei and asks her where she's from, since he can't place her accent. Missandei recalls to Grey Worm that she is from an island called Naath, and was taken by the slavers when she was five years old. Missandei's village was attacked and burned by slavers when she was five years old, and she was captured and taken to the slaver-city of Astapor. The Summer Islands divide the Sunset Sea in the west from the Summer Sea in the east.Naath is a frequent target of slaving raids from Slaver's Bay, a region of Essos on the opposite side of the Summer Sea.

The islands lie approximately due south of eastern Dorne, the Narrow Sea and the western Free Cities, several hundred miles west of Naath and the western coast of Sothoryos. The town of Last Lament at the north-western tip of Walano is located almost exactly 750 miles due south of Sunspear in Dorne. The islands occupy an area of ocean extending from north to south for a thousand miles, and from east to west for almost nine hundred. The Smiling Sea divides Walano from Omboru and the Indigo Straits divide Omboru from Jhala. The numerous smaller islands include Koj, the Isle of Birds, Stone Head, Singing Stones, Three Exiles, Moluu, Xon, Doquu and the Bones. The city of Ebonhead is also located on Jhala. Jhala is the largest island, containing the Red Flower Vale (home of Jalabhar Xho) and Sweet Lotus Vale. Further north on Walano is the oft-mentioned Tall Trees Town, the home of the Cinnamon Wind and her crew. The capital city of the Summer Islands is Lotus Port, located on Walano. The large islands are, from north to south, Walano, Omboru and Jhala.
